Born in the Maldives
Born on November 21, 1972, in Hithadhoo (modern Addu City), Seenu Atoll, in the southernmost reaches of the Maldives archipelago.
Bachelor of Laws (LL.B)
Earned Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Tasmania, Australia, establishing a strong foundation in common law and legal practice.
Begins Legal Career
Joined the Attorney General's Office as State Attorney, responsible for providing legal opinions to the Government and reviewing draft laws and regulations.
Master of Laws (LL.M)
Earned Master of Laws degree from the Graduate School of Law and Politics at Osaka University, Japan, specializing in constitutional and international law.
Executive Director & Parliamentarian
Promoted to Executive Director at the Attorney General's Office. Also appointed to the People's Majlis (Parliament) and the People's Special Majlis (Constitutional Assembly).
Constitutional Assembly
Played a key role in drafting the new democratic constitution. Credited for proposing a deadline and time-bound schedule to complete the constitution.
New Constitution Ratified
The 2008 Constitution was ratified, establishing multi-party democracy, separation of powers, an independent judiciary, and protection of fundamental rights in the Maldives.
Attorney General of the Maldives
Appointed as Attorney General of the first democratically elected multi-party government under President Mohamed Nasheed, serving from November 12, 2008 to May 19, 2009.

Nominated SAARC Secretary-General

First Woman SAARC Secretary-General
